Jaw pain behind molars

If the gums behind your molars are causing you a lot of pain , there’s a possibility you may have developed a condition known as pericoronitis. This is a fairly common dental issue that causes the gum tissue behind your molars to become infected and swollen, which can be quite painful. It most commonly occurs around the wisdom teeth as they erupt.


Some people are also simply more prone to cavities. You may feel sharp pain or throbbing in a molar that has a cavity.

Pulpitis is the result of inflammation inside your tooth caused by cavities. It happens when you clench your teeth together without realizing it, which can create a lot of tension in your teeth and jaw , along with the muscles, tendons, and ligaments that support your jaw , Dr. Jaw pain can be a result of dental conditions such as gum disease, badly fitting bridges, plates or false teeth. This can leave you in serious pain. Periodontal gum disease is a condition that causes the gums to retreat, leaving a gap between teeth and gums.


This opens the way for infection in the gums, which spreads into the jaw itself. They often have “trigger points” or areas that are tender and can even refer pain to the affected teeth.

I felt around with my teeth and I could feel a hunch of flesh, like a flap that I could lift up with the tip of my tongue.
