Molar band braces

Can they put braces on molars? Why to use rubber bands with braces? Are rubber bands needed with my braces? Does getting you molar bands braces off hurt?

Back then, it was common for orthodontists to place a band on every tooth in the mouth when attaching braces. Recently, however, more effective bonding materials have allowed doctors to place brackets on teeth without the need for bands. The exception is molars.

I’m on class elastics and was just upgraded to a heavier set a couple months ago. By the time my next appointment rolls aroun the band is pretty much all the way loose. A primer is painted onto the teeth.


They never involved my 2nd molars in that treatment, dunno why not. When they took my braces off, I noticed a white spot on a bottom molar in the position where the band had been. I had braces and DD has braces , including an expander with two metal bands around her molars. I have never heard of such sensitivity. Something is incorrect in the banding. How do they take off molar bands and such?
