Fixed braces

What do you need to know about fixed braces? Can you get braces with a fixed bridge? Can my underbite be fixed with braces? Will braces fix a weak chin?

If you’ve decided to have fixed braces fitte you’re on your way to having a beautifully straight smile that can be maintained for life with the right care.

Using advanced technologies and techniques, fixed metal braces consist of small metal brackets with a wire running through them. Fixed braces are the most common type of orthodontic appliance. A few days after a fixed brace is fitte you’ll be able to eat a normal range of foods. But you should avoid certain foods and drinks, such as toffee, hard sweets and fizzy drinks, as they can damage the appliance and your teeth.

Clear fixed braces – Clear fixed braces are fixed brackets made of either ceramic or composite material. Ceramic material is harder than tooth surface, this means that if the opposing teeth bite against them then the tooth surface will wear down, this means that your teeth edges can shorten or chip. A retainer is a custom-made, removable or fixed appliance that helps teeth maintain their new position after braces have been removed.

Retainers can also be used to treat minor orthodontic problems. A fixed brace is an orthodontic appliance which cannot be removed from the mouth by the patient. Amongst teenagers, fixed braces are commonly known as “train tracks” which can be used to treat children and adults alike. Experiencing some pain following fitting and activation of fixed orthodontic braces is very common and several methods have been suggested to tackle this. The dental displacement obtained with the orthodontic appliance determines in most cases some degree of root resorption.

Only in a few cases is this side effect large enough to be considered. Don’t put it off for any longer – If you’re unhappy with your teeth then I highly recommend looking into and getting fixed braces. Because retainers are worn for years, they may need periodic replacement. Your original treatment contract includes two sets of retainers after the braces are removed.

Fixed retainers (Bonded Wire) This wire should stay on forever. There are two types of retainers after braces : Fixed and removable. Choosing the type usually involves the clinical needs of the individual case, the desires of the patient and the overall compliance that the dentist and patient can expect from retainer maintenance. A metal wire called an archwire connects each bracket and when adjusted regularly, these braces straighten your teeth and correct your bite. Expect to pay around £0– £0for ceramic braces from a private dentist.

Lingual braces are made in the same way as metal braces , but there is a major difference as this type is actually placed on the inside of the teeth rather than the outside.

This is a fixed brace attached to the inside of your teeth so no one knows you’re wearing them. Some forms of fixed braces are now extremely discreet - find out more about lingual braces and ceramic braces. You can enquire about fixed braces and other alternatives at your local Bupa Dental Care practice.

For these orthodontic problems and many others, Dr. Kadar uses the Damon System of braces on all of his patients 1 of the time. And he has done so for over thirteen years!

The Damon System is a whole new way of treating patients, without compromising the graceful arch and rounded profile that makes a beautiful smile. Fixed dental braces use the pressure of an adjustable wire (archwire) running through brackets and bands attached to your teeth to align your teeth and jaws. Elastic ties fix the wire to the brackets.

A buccal tube secures the end of the wire.
