Jaw pain but no tooth pain

This condition causes swelling around the decaying tooth , leading to tissue destruction and pain in your jaw. Grinding can cause severe damage to your teeth and is one of the leading jaw pain causes. It is the process of clenching the teeth , that is not associated with chewing. Yesterday and today my lower left jaw has become quite swollen (directly beneath my rear-most molar), with mild general pain.

I have chronic sinusitis and it causes my teeth to ache. It is kind of a floating pain not isolated to one specific tooth.

The first time I realized what it was I was in the dental chair and as soon As he reclined me it disappeared. I proclaimed him a miracle worker. I use a neti pot nearly everyday and that keeps things at bay. Tooth trauma or tooth fracture can increase the sensitivity when you chew.

This generally makes the nerve ending within the tooth tender hence impinge damage, soreness. Toothache and jaw pain can be caused by a number of reasons. For some people, the pain from even a small issue can be very severe, but for others, severe issues can lead to surprisingly little pain.

It all depends upon the person, their pain tolerance, what teeth and nerves are involve and many other factors. They often have “trigger points” or areas that are tender and can even refer pain to the affected teeth.

Sometimes a few other muscles are involved and may be causing your jaw pain. Those other muscles are in your neck on the same side and on the sides of your upper head. The temporalis muscle on the sides of your head can also cause you to feel ‘ tooth pain ’ that really isn’t in your teeth.

Can clenching your jaw cause tooth pain? Could an infected tooth be causing pain in my jaw? What causes jaw pain if the tooth has been removed? Is TMJ causing your jaw pain?

The most common reasons why your jaw might be in pain. Common causes of jaw pain include injuries to your jaw or mouth, dental problems like gum disease, infections like mumps and tetanus. Can jaw pain feel like a toothache ? A toothache would be categorized as jaw pain.

This triggers sensitivity in the tooth , and depending on how deeply the nerve is affecte the jaw below the tooth as well. In reality, jaw pain can be a symptom of toothaches. While x-raying my teeth weeks ago, Dentist noticed that I had a spot under one of my filled cavities in back lower tooth that needed refilled.

Took out old filling and replaced it in what seemed like a normal procedure. Ask your dentist about a nightguard. Unfortunately, dull pain could have a much more severe source, particularly if it’s constant.

Often, constant pain means your tooth has abscessed. Abscessed teeth have an infection inside them that has spread to the tooth ’s root.

Jaw pain can be a result of dental conditions such as gum disease, badly fitting bridges, plates or false teeth. Periodontal gum disease is a condition that causes the gums to retreat, leaving a gap between teeth and gums. This opens the way for infection in the gums, which spreads into the jaw itself. First eruption of third molars or wisdom teeth can cause pain.

Second , if you are a clencher or grinder you can end up with pain in some of your teeth. Thir there is something called trigeminal neuralgia that can cause tooth pain as well. Finally, make sure your dentist has checked every single tooth clinically plus x-rays.
