Cold sore on gums above tooth

Cold sores – these sores appear as clusters of re raised blisters outside the mouth — typically around the lips, but they can develop under the nose or under the chin. They are highly contagious. Tooth abscess – this occurs when there is a bacterial infection in the nerve of the tooth. You might feel pain between your teeth , on top of some of your teeth , or all over your gums.


In some cases, you might only feel it in the back of your mouth. Sore gums can bleed or swell, though they don’t always have visible symptoms.

Cold sores , likewise called fever blisters or herpes simplex type are groups of painful, fluid-filled blisters. Likewise, cold sores generally appear outside the mouth– usually under the nose, around the lips ,. Try to avoid foods that seem to irritate the gums or cause teeth sensitivity. These may include chips, pretzels, salty foods and acidic fruits like pineapple, grapefruit and oranges. A tingling feeling can also indicate a cold sore. Both canker sores and cold sores can be triggered by stress and lack of sleep.


What causes a canker sore ? Canker sores can be caused by trauma such as biting your cheek, jabbing your gum with your toothbrush or even overzealous tooth cleaning. This puts your gums at risk for inflammation due to the bacteria that live in plaque.

This can arise due to a number of different causes, including poor oral hygiene with improper brushing or flossing. These sores are extremely contagious but pose no serious health threats. It is advised you see a doctor if these sores last more than weeks and are accompanied by fever. Though they generally form around the mouth, they can sometimes spread inside the oral cavity.


This type of tooth abscess usually appears as a deep cavity in the tooth. Fever, lack of energy and swelling in the neck area may occur. I can chew with no discomfort and hot and cold do not bother me.


I press down on this area it feels very tender like a bruise.
