Cold for toothache

How to get rid of toothache fast at home? Should you put heat or cold on a toothache? How do you calm a toothache?


Using medications such as ibuprofen ( Advil , Motrin ), acetaminophen ( Tylenol ), and aspirin can relieve minor pain from a toothache. Using numbing pastes or gels — often with benzocaine — can help to dull the pain long enough for you to fall asleep. A person can try holding the ice pack or a bag of frozen peas, for example, against the outside of the cheek above the painful tooth for a few minutes at a time.

Let’s get this straight. Between heat and cold , cold is the best solution to treat a toothache. The reason why we do not recommend hot treatment for toothaches is that a toothache is typically a function of an infection caused by bacteria. Add ice cubes to a Ziploc bag. Add enough water in the Ziploc bag to cover the ice cubes.

You should repeat this particular process between two and four times a day in order to handle the infection. The next compress is the cold one. If your toothache is associated with swelling, holding a cold compress against the outside of your cheek (minutes on, then minutes off) may provide some relief.


Disadvantage – toothache goes away with cold water but it is momentary – This is the only disadvantage that a cold water treatment has.

You may be tempted to put a warm or cool compress on your tooth to help with the pain and swelling, but this isn’t a good idea. Since the swelling is caused by an infection and not inflammation, the hot or cold pack won’t help the swelling.
